Thinking Weight Loss? Think Long Term

Shots N’ Shakes Diet Strategies

Stanford A. Owen MD

Losing weight and putting it back on is common, if not usual. Human nature drives us back to old habits and taste preferences. It is not easy to deprive oneself or to have constant hunger.

The new weight loss shots and weight loss pills are helpful. They may be taken forever.  However, they are costly. Most of my patients are thinking short term (6 months) when I prescribe either shots or pills.

To lose weight safely, rapidly, and avoid hunger or malnutrition it is wise to use proven diet strategy. Shots N’ Shakes strategies are simple, provide perfect nutrition, excellent taste, and are inexpensive.

Here are a few simple but permanent changes every person should make to keep off weight:

1) You MUST eliminate sugar-laden drinks. Replace them with any of the hundreds of flavored waters and diet drinks available everywhere. ONE regular 12-ounce soda, taken daily for a year, is 150 calories x 360 days per year = 54,000 calories or 15 pounds per year! Whether soda, juice, milk, or sweet tea the result is the same for one serving/day. Double or triple the weight gain if you drink 2 or 3 drinks per day. 3/day = 45lb/year!!!

2) Add lots of fruit and vegetables into the house. Use them for snacks. Nuts are also healthy snacks, just higher in calories.

3) Do some simple exercise every day. Make it SIMPLE and EASY. Sit Ups, Push Ups, Squats Walk whenever able.

Use Shots N’ Shakes like weight loss medication:

3 scoops as a shake or pudding twice daily with a complete multivitamin.

Use the strategy with every family member. Kids love the shakes or pudding.

Keep it simple.
