A Word from the Inventor of Shots N’ Shakes: Perfect Food/Perfect Taste

Dear Patients and General Public,

The world of medicine and society are forever changed. I know because I’ve watched, often with frustration, helping patients fight their obesity-related illness. I used diet strategies over decades, using teams of professionals. Eventually I invented a food product that profoundly improved metabolism. What I could not beat or overcome for those patients was hunger. Hunger was winning.

The “shots” that changed the world did not miraculously appear on the world stage. They came from diligent scientific observation, research, money, and persistence. I was involved in the initial clinical trials in the late 1990’s involving a drug called Byetta—still available but obsolete. It was developed from the saliva of the Gila Monster lizard of the US desert southwest. Keen scientific observation regarding how the saliva improved insulin metabolism led to the research.

The rest, as they say is history. We now have two 4rd degree relatives of Byetta, semaglutide and terzepatide that have captured the world stage. They manage hunger! They improve the chemistry of insulin resistance. They succeed in treating obesity related illness—the major scourge of my practice for almost 50 years.

The shots are here to stay! Medical practice will never be the same!

When I first started treating obesity I used a food product that was invented to help people eat very few calories without eating up their own organ proteins for energy. Prior to this type of food, called VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) food, people dieting severely would frequently die from cardiac arrest due to muscle breakdown. The muscles, including the heart, were being used for energy. Food Scientists then applied knowledge and skill to concoct a formula of protein and carbohydrate, in a delicate balance, that allowed safe and successful VLCD dieting. That was 1981.

My most immediate observation using VLCD diets was that terribly ill patients with diabetes, heart failure, and kidney failure were getting well and FAST. VLCD diet products healed while using traditional medical recommendations did not, or not nearly as well. I participated in programs using the perfect VLCD food that tasted perfectly awful. Patient had to choke them down. I determined then to invent my own VLCD product but it had to taste great! I did that in 1996!

In 1993, I attended a lecture that revealed, for the first time, that fat cells produce hormones. The hormones were named cytokines and the first one discovered was called LEPTIN. I published a book in 2002 that showed how fat cells were producing scores of newly discovered cytokine hormones that caused every disease I was treating as an Internal Medicine specialist, spending many days and many nights in intensive care. By understanding cytokines, I could explain why my VLCD patients improved so fast, within days, and better than with medication. VLCD diet products and the removal of toxic cytokine-producing food immediately removed the toxic cytokines, made from fat cell, from the circulation.

Remove the toxin and the patient improves!
